It was much more emotional than the 2011 version- Leorio actually cried which had a lot more impact than the five seconds of flashback to his childhood they had in 2011. The 2011 adaptation is much more faithful to the manga. The extra scenes from Leorio in the 1999 adaptation are 0% canon. Doesn't have to mean that its bad.

The story in the 1999 version stops in the middle, but the 2011 version continues until the end, although it has many fights, some sad moments, and happy ones.
