Page 10 At the flying field To prevent possible damage to your radio gear, turn the power switches on and off in the proper sequence: 1. Pull throttle stick to idle position, or otherwise disarm your motor/engine. 2. Turn on the transmitter power and allow your transmitter to reach its home screen. Step 1: Transmitters. The transmitter is what you use to control your plane with. This is usually the most expensive electronic component that you will buy. Most modern transmitters us a 2.4 Ghz frequency. These new ones have shorter antennas and are easier to work with as opposed to the oder FM radios. Also, you can set positive expo to ‘increase’ sensitivity in the center. Never tried that, but it is an available option. If you ever change transmitter brands, and want to set up expo, be sure to check the manual because some brands flip-flop positive and negative compared to Futaba.
Turn on the power switch with the + key and – key pressed in the power off state. The screen shown at the next appears. To return to the home screen, turn off the power and then turn the power back on without pressing the keys. If the following types are selected, the transmitter will vibrate during the time up.
CAUTION: When using a Futaba® transmitter with a Spektrum™ DSM® module, you must reverse the throttle channel and rebind. Refer to your Spektrum module manual for binding and failsafe instructions. Refer to your Futaba transmitter manual for instructions on reversing the throttle channel. 1.
Make sure everything works as intended. Turn the aircraft off. With the student radio turned off, plug in the trainer cable to it. It will power up and be in student mode. (With Spektrum and JR, this is how you tell which is student and which is instructor. The student radio is turned off and the cable plugged in).
